April 2024 meeting – ‘Craftivism’

Our meeting on 23rd April will hear from our guest speaker, Sarah Corbett, about Craftivism (craft + activism), a term she coined in 2014. Craftivism is a form of peaceful activism that uses craft, and is something that many WIs take part in.

Sarah set up the global community ‘Craftivist Collective’ in 2009 to help individuals, groups and organisations use craft (mostly hand-embroidery and papercrafts) to help activists engage thoughtfully in social change.

Sarah’s work has helped change laws, policies, hearts and minds around the world. She is a professional campaigner, most recently with Oxfam; she works with charities, museums, galleries and unusual allies to reach new and nervous audiences for activism.
